Being a Fair Leader. To be a leader, to control and guide people in the right direction is what most of the people are aiming to do in life. Being the main person in the group certainly means that the individual has a lot of power over the public and is able to influence people as he wishes. It might seem that once the person achieves his goal of being above others and starts controlling other people, his duty becomes straightforward and undemanding. However, the role of a leader is very strenuous and challenging. The person who has authority has to balance his personal desires with the needs of people for whom he is in charge. Even though he is enforcing the law does not mean that he can manipulate it as he wants. To see the difference between the Sophocles and Anouihs king I would like to analyze two plays and see how Anouih changes the kings personality making him a true model of king not changing the circumstances of the play and Sophocles description of the same ruler leaves us in doubts and displeasure. Those stories were based on the myth, which describes the life of a royal family. When the king of the country died, one of his two sons had to take over and rule the country. However the other brother also wanted to become a king, and despite their great decision to rule the country by alternating each year, it eventually caused a war in which both brothers died. Creon who was next in becoming a ruler made a law not to bury the brother who attacked the city. However, Antigone who was the sister of those brothers broke the rule and was punished for disobedience. Creons son kills himself when he realizes that Antigone, with whom he was engaged, is dead. The deaths did not stop there and t he wife of Creon kills herself after she receives the news that her son Haemon is dead. In Sophocles version, Creon was presented as a cruel, stubborn man whose authoritarian behavior showed him as a negative character of the play.
